The Ministry of Housing and Water will officially launch the much-anticipated Building Expo within two weeks and according to subject minister Collin Croal, the event will run from July 22 to July 24, 2022, at the National Stadium at Providence, East Bank Demerara.
“We have already set up our secretariat and decided the various prices for the booths so the preparatory works are ongoing and when we launch, we will have all the prices available for persons who want to participate,” Minister Croal told the News Room recently.
According to Croal, the exposition will include the demonstration of model houses such as the government’s moderate to low income and young professional homes.
“It’s to showcase what the new Guyana would look like, the transformation…this building expo will have from the housing and water sector aspect and our massive infrastructure drive,” Croal said.
The expo will be opened to regional and international participants but locals will be given priority.
A total of $27 million has been allocated in the 2022 national budget for the expo. The event has been a running attraction since 2010, under the stewardship of then Housing and Water Minister and now President, Dr. Irfaan Ali.
It gives those involved in the construction and building sectors a chance to show off their skills. But when the government changed in 2015, the APNU+AFC Coalition suspended it, citing a need for it to be revamped. However, six years had passed and nothing materialized.
